The Tigerlilies have been labeled Cincinnati’s sole practitioners of post punk power pop (say that 10 times fast). The band is led by the Hennessy brothers, Pat (vocals, guitar) and Steve (vocals, drums), with Brian Driscoll (bass) and Brendan Bogosian (lead guitar) rounding out the quartet. The Tigerlillies have been at it for a decade now, releasing four full-lengths and a handful of EPs and singles along the way.
Following up their 2016 EP ‘123456,’ the Tigerlillies are back with a pair of new songs on 7-inch. The A-side features “Lovers Du.” The track is a lover’s lament about being with someone you care about and doing things for them because that’s what lovers do. It’s a sweet sentiment backed by feel-good indie pop beat. The flip side, “Shipwrecked” counteracts the vibe from the A-side with a darker story of someone needing help dealing with depression. The clever songwriting is punctuated with a meaty guitar sound and a deep groove from the rhythm section.
Personally, I’ve always liked the Tigerlillies for their writing style, dedication to music and perseverance. The “Lovers Du” b/w “Shipwrecked” is another gem of juxtaposition from the band which will fit nicely in their catalogue of music.
