Wilmington, Delaware has never exactly been known as the breeding ground for rock bands, but at least one group is working to put their city on the map. For more than a decade now, the Spinto Band has been churning out a delightfully quirky collection of indie pop albums in the vein of folks like Superchunk and Pavement.
One of their earliest records, 2006’s ‘Nice and Nicely Done’ is getting the deluxe vinyl re-issue treatment including a second LP crammed with B-Sides and rarities. The original album was impressive, boasting some of the band’s best songs to date like “Oh Mandy” and “Crack the Whip.” It’s an even more impressive feat when you realize many of the members were just out of their teens at the time.
The reissue includes the full album plus an additional 12 more songs which were recorded between 2000 and 2003. Among the standouts on the second LP include the catchy “Don’t Take It Personal” and the fuzz-heavy “My Special Car.” It’s remarkable that this wasn’t simply released as another LP as many of these songs are strong enough to stand on their own.
It’s been about four years since the Spinto Band put out their last record, but this re-release has prompted the band to tour again. Hopefully another record is not far behind.
