The Doors
Live At the Bowl ’68
(Eagle Rick Ent.)
So much has been said about the Doors, possibly one of the most dissected, discussed, studied bands of the rock era. Re-issues, box sets, documentaries, motion pictures, concert footage, analyses, you name it it’s been done to this band. And as for the deification of singer Jim Morrison to messianic shaman, well, like I said, it’s all been done.
However, watching this DVD, it’s easy to understand the initial power of the Doors; they were a killer live band, and in Morrison, they had a front man who not only lived inside every word that he sang, but was 100% committed to the live performance. I could go on about the intensity of Morrison’s performance, and we could mention that he is coming on to LSD during the show, but none of it matters, because this is the Doors in all their Lizard King, nihilistic, weird and dangerous glory. The extras are more than fine, but the concert is just a mindblower, and for once, the legend is well served. Amazing.
