(Sub Pop)

Eugene Mirman is a 35-year-old comedian who was born in the Soviet Union and settled in Boston, Mass., when he was four years old. Mirman began his comedy career while attending Hampshire College and developed a strong indie following which led to opening slots for The Shins and Yo La Tengo among others.

God Is a Twelve Year Old Boy with Asperger's is Mirman’s third CD and second with Sub Pop Records. The 11-track release kicks off with a mish mash of short comedy bits with Mirman’s impeccable delivery. Then he goes into a hilarious true story about his gas being shut off and Mirman’s crazt retorts when he finds out the gas company made a mistake.

Mirman has the crowd roaring with laughter in “Vancouver, Detroit, and Bears!” where he interacts with the crowd about how to defend yourself against a bear attack. In “I Found an iPod,” Mirman talks about finding an iPod in a cab and calls Apple to report it missing. He tracks down the owner and treats the situation like a hostage negotiation. “The Will to Whatevs Book Tour and an Amazing Boy with Asperger’s” is Mirman’s comical take on religion (“Religion is like high functioning Autism”) thanks to a boy at a book store while on tour.

The CD ends with Mirman scewering an airline company who lost his luggage in the final two tracks. He tape records the phone calls and turns them into a hillarious skit to show the airlines incompetance in ““Sex, ??? AirLIES, and Videotape: A Three-Part Radio Play Very Based on a True Story.” Then writes a crazy letter to the airlines in “My Letter to ??? Airlines, Your Postcard to ??? Airlines.”

Eugene Mirman’s God Is a Twelve Year Old Boy with Asperger's is a short, but very quirky funny comedy release with a lot of one liners and jabs. There is no doubt Mirman has a wickedly artistic and funny mind and it plays out on several moments in his third comedy disc.

These Canadians are a hard band to pinpoint, but that is also the reason they are so damn fun to listen to.
Every town should have, assuming that it is a place worth living, a band like the Soul Movers. It makes for a great night out. Real music performed in bars for real people with real beer.
Ari Up and Tessa Pollitt are back with a band whose ingredients — punk, reggae, hip hop, and even middle eastern music — have had enough time to blend, ferment, and become spicy, pungent, and tasty.
The Chicago-based post-rock unit Russian Circles is a three-piece group known for their instrumental approach to post-hardcore/post-melodic.
A friend asked me to describe The Prairie Cartel’s sound to him, and the first thing to come to mind was “electronic rock you could dance to while punching someone in the face.”
