PHOTO BLOG: The Revolution Rock the Garden and First Ave During Homecoming

Earlier this year the Revolution announced a few select shows and the response was so overwhelming the reunited group booked a whole tour.

Prince formed the Revoultion in the early 1980s with Bobby Z (drums); Matt Fink (keyboards) Lisa Coleman (keyboards/piano); Wendy Melvoin (guitar); and Brown Mark (bass) to master the challenging musicality of his vision. The band would appear on three of Prince’s albums – ‘Purple Rain,’ ‘Around the World In a Day’ and ‘Parade’ while some members also played on ‘1999.’ Together they earned multiple #1 hits, as well as two Grammy® Awards plus an Oscar, with the song “Purple Rain,” for Best Original Song Score in 1985.

Since the sudden shocking death of their friend and musical mentor, the funk-rock- R&B band has been playing live shows and keeping Prince’s music alive.

On on the weekend of Saturday, July 22 the Revoutlion came home to Minneapolis to play the Rock the Garden Festival at the Walker Art Center and a show at the legendary First Ave. Innocent Words photographer Joshua Pickering was there to capture the emotional shows with his camera.
