Journey: Greatest Hits Volume 2

Greatest Hits Volume 2
(Sony Legacy)

I distinctively remember the first time I heard Journey. I was ten years old – over at my friend Shawn’s house. He had an older brother who was in high school. His brother Mike had this amazing vinyl collection and we’d thumb through the albums looking at the art work. I found Journey’s Escape and the bright blue cover with a rocket busting out of a planet blew my mind. It was so colorful and the art work was raised off the cardboard sleeve. We put the record on, even though we weren’t supposed to touch his records. The opening track was “Don’t Stop Believin’,” and I was sold. Jonathan Cain’s keyboards and Neal Schon’s guitar solo blew my mind.

It’s pretty remarkable just how many hits Journey has had. Sure everyone knows “Don’t Stop Believin’,” “Faithfully,” “Any Way You Want It,” and “Lovin’, Touchin’, Squeezin'” but there are a whole lot more you might not remember. Journey’s Greatest Hits Volume 2brings together those lesser-known hits and puts them together in this companion piece to their 2006 16-times platinum Greatest Hits collection.

On Greatest Hits Volume 2 the band still dishes out more Top 20 and Top 40 hits including “Anytime,” “Feeling That Way,” and “Stone in Love.”  And though they didn’t make it that high on the charts you will certainly recognize “After The Fall,” “Stay Awhile,” and “Suzanne.”  In addition, “Chain Reaction” is one of the best rockers in the band’s career and “Still They Ride” could be the best ballad the band has next to “Faithfully”.

In all, Journey’s Greatest Hits Volume 2 houses 17 classic Journey songs that may have slipped your mind, but once you hear those guitar chords of Neal Schon, the keyboard of Jonathan Cain and Steve Perry’s unmistakable falsetto you will be transformed back to a time when Journey was one of the biggest bands in the world.
