Remember that segment in “The Simpsons Treehouse of Horror VI” where Homer finds himself trapped in a three dimensional world and he freaks out? That is pretty much the feeling you get when you first listen to Jenny Hval’s Innocence Is Kinky.

The “multidisciplinary and transgressive Norwegian artist” unveils here sophomore release which is chock full of intimate lyrics. After all the opening line to the title track is “At night I watch people fucking on my computer…” She also brings in heady topics such as gender politics, mythology, theory, and of course sex. Quite a mixture of desires she has. Without a doubt Hval likes to explore the road less traveled and challenges you to come along with her.

Like herself, Hval’s music is opaque, intricate and stimulating. She sings with high-pitched tones, screaming out in orgasmic tones while steady beats back her and guitars scream unmercifully hammering her point home. The tracks rattle off with improvisational predispositions making Innocence Is Kinky fascinating. You don’t know where’s she’s going with her songs but you hang on for the rise.
