Short Bio (in your own words):
Red Western is best described as a group of friends who have been making music and playing shows as an excuse to hang out a couple times a week for nearly a decade now. Starting off as an alternative country band, but changing into something else as the years past. This single is the fourth release we have put out.
What was the first live concert you ever went to?
Jay: The first concert I ever got to see was the Rolling Stones with my dad at the old Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh in 1994.
What is your funniest or worst tour experience?
Well we always end up sharing beds when we travel. That’s always funny. Everyone does their best to not sleep with Jay… Otherwise the first thing that comes to mind is Lauren almost missing a show in Brooklyn because she got absorbed into the Puerto Rican pride day parade in Manhattan. We were at the venue setting up and she was marching around in the streets. Couldn’t be too mad though, it was her first time in NYC.
What THREE things are a must have when you go on tour or play a show?
Honestly, it’s great when a venue provides the amps. The worst thing about being a band is carrying all the stuff. Not a requirement, but we certainly seem to appreciate the venues that give the bands drink tickets. I don’t believe we have yet to waste one of those. Jay likes giant fountain sodas for traveling.
What was the first record you ever purchased?
Jay: It’s kind of hard to remember…The first record I ever bought was probably the Montell Jordan “This is How We Do It” single… managed to branch out a bit after that.
If you had to record an EP of covers, which FIVE songs/artist would make the cut?
Sean: Fleetwood Mac “Gypsy”
Jay: Sam Cooke “Bring It On Home To Me”
Lauren Iron Maiden “The Trooper”
Jon: Cave In “Moral Eclipse”
Band: Wings “Let Me Roll It” (we cover this in real life).
What’s your preferred music format – vinyl, CD, digital, cassette – and why?
Jay: As a listener, vinyl, it’s just cool to hold something with big art, cool inserts. It kind of commemorates your interest in a record or artist. These days (sounding old as shit) it’s nice to have to try to actually get your hands on something, either hitting up a record store, or special ordering it, rather than the instantaneous nature of digital. That said… we all have Spotify.
What is your website and do you have a music video to share?
We don’t have a proper music video, but here is our site with all our recordings, photos, etc.
