Innocent Words Presents IW10 with Matt Burr of Black Delta Movement

TEN: Starting in 2013, each Friday, Innocent Words started shining the spotlight directly on up and coming artists/bands with 10 questions we like to call IW10.

Hometown:
Kingston Upon Hull

Members and Instruments:
Matt Burr (guitar, vocals)
Dominic Abbott (guitar)
Liam Kerman (bass)
Jacob Tillison (drums)
Joe Gray (drums/percussion)

Short Bio (in your own words):
We started in 2010 with a completely different lineup aside from me and Dom, went through a few members afterwards and then in 2015 we got the lineup we have today. We have been influenced by psych/garage/rock & roll bands and have always tried to work hard and gig relentlessly.

What was the first live concert you ever went to?
Ocean Colour Scene at Hull City Hall on the Songs For The Front Row tour when I was eight.

What is your funniest or worst tour experience?
Oh man we have too many to mention! I suppose one of the funniest moments was me falling over on stage and breaking a rib in front of around a thousand people. The other lads found it hilarious.

What THREE things are a must have when you go on tour or play a show?
Aside from the obvious, lately when we’ve gone on tour I’ve always made double sure that I have a book, my headphones and my parka to double up as a duvet in the back of the van. We nap a lot.

What was the first record you ever purchased?
Gorillaz’s first album – I remember going into Virgin Megastores with my dad looking for the Clint Eastwood single but instead we left with that. Some prick has stolen it off me though! Unforgivable.

If you had to record an EP of covers, which FIVE songs/artist would make the cut?
I’ve always wanted to do this! If it were me choosing now, off the top of my head, it would have to be…
“Natural Selection” by UNKLE
“Bad Vibrations” by The Black Angels
“Kiss You Dead” by The Monsters
“Loose” by The Stooges
“2,000 Lightyears From Home” by the Rolling Stones

What’s your preferred music format – vinyl, CD, digital, cassette – and why?
I’m a big lover of vinyl, my collection is probably my most prized possession. I just find that, while the sound is warmer, it’s just a nicer product to spend your money on. It really feels like you’re investing in an artist when you buy their record, it’s special.

What is your website and do you have a music video to share?
Our latest video is Seven Cirlces from last year which can be found on our youtube page. We do have new songs coming soon though.
