Short Bio (in your own words):
Singer songwriter from Ardmore Ok. Great family, friends, childhood. Very small town typical story. Bad car wreck at 16 that left me bed ridden for almost a year. Learned to play guitar at that time, while also beginning to write; fueled from the emotional roller coaster that followed the wreck due to injuries, shock and the significant change that took place so quickly. Got a huge amount of cash from the wreck (insurance) which didn’t help things. This basically funded the rest of my teen years and every dollar went to something very unhealthy.
Chased my own tail all over the Midwest until age 25 when my first daughter was born. Recorded a record at 26 under a small label. Had every opportunity to take it far, but apparently my self-destructive ways were not over yet. Recorded music from time to time, played some local regional shows. Had my second daughter at age 29. Have continued to write and record while playing shows on a part time basis.
Made a call to Wes Sharon in 2015 and said I want to record a life changing record. I think we succeeded at that with the completion of ‘Upward’ out on June 2.
Now here we are many years, many mistakes, ups and down, two daughters who are my life, and a fresh start later ready to enjoy the process, and see where it takes us!
What is your funniest or worst tour experience?
Spent one morning taking all of the gravel out of the flower beds at the hotel and covered our tour manager with it in his bed while he was passed out. Yes, he was passed out hard enough to be covered in gravel and not wake up. All the way to his head that is. We weren’t trying to kill him, of course.
Worst experience. The trailer door swung open one day while we were driving and gear fell out for about 30 minutes while driving. Had to spend the day tracking everything down. Luckily got it all back.
What THREE things are a must have when you go on tour or play a show?
Something to read. Running shoes. A picture of my daughters.
What was the first record you ever purchased?
Tripping Daisy ‘Bill’
If you had to record an EP of covers, which FIVE songs/artist would make the cut?
(this list could change on a daily basis)
“Just like a Woman” by Bob Dylan
“Wild Horses” by Rolling Stones
“Confetti” by Lemonheads
“Wherever is Your Heart” by Brandi Carlile
“Learning to Fly by Tom Petty
What’s your preferred music format – vinyl, CD, digital, cassette – and why?
If I had the time, vinyl. I rarely do have the time, so I listen via iPod
