Innocent Words Presents IW10 with Cowtown

IW10BannerTEN: Starting in 2013, each Friday, Innocent Words started shining the spotlight directly on up and coming artists/bands with 10 questions we like to call IW10.

Leeds, United Kingdom

Members and Instruments:
Hilary Knott – keybass, vocals
David Michael Shields – drums
Jon Nash – guitar, vocals

Short Bio (in your own words):
Erm… Slavishly upbeat econo punk from Leeds. Been together longer than time. Playing music provides us with much needed stimulation and acts as an excellent distraction from the everyday of life.

What was the first live concert you ever went to?
MC Hammer with Snap at NEC Arena. Maybe 1990-91.

What is your funniest or worst tour experience?
The time Hilary was trying to coerce me into drinking a shot of Tequila in a squat venue in Zurich (Egocity of you’re interested) and was so distracted by the mammoth task of explaining the process (lick salt, then drink the tequila, then suck the lemon if you’re interested) and twisting my arm into participating that she accidentally downed the shot glass of salt. Simultaneously David Michael Shields may or may not have been serenading an audience with an impromptu poetry session.

What THREE things are a must have when you go on tour or play a show?
For tour – Lots of fresh clothes, tooth brush, that cable that connects phones to car stereos, and for a gig – coffee (which I will definitely drink), one beer (that I will definitely drink) and water (which I will almost definitely forget to drink. (I’m gonna assume you didn’t actually mean the actual for real like a guitar, keyboard, drums and some amplification … cause that’s all you really need … the rest is just rockstar bs)

What was the first record you ever purchased?
Lionel Ritchie ‘All Night Long.’

If you had to record an EP of covers, which FIVE songs/artist would make the cut?
We’ve covered a lot of songs already – here’s five.
Fugazi “Merchandise”
Devo “Gates of Steel”
Nirvana “Milk It”
Gang of Four “Natural is Not In It”
They Might Be Giants “Cage & Aquarium”

It would make an interesting EP if we could play the songs better.

What’s your preferred music format – vinyl, CD, digital, cassette – and why?
Vinyl – It’s the biggest and best.

What is your website and do you have a music video to share?
