This morning, Billboard premiered the official video for “Only A Clown,” a standout track off Caitlin Rose’s forthcoming album, The Stand-In. The video features Rose enjoying a Nashville night, complete with friends, love interests, karaoke and a run-in with the cops, with a theme described as such: “I guess it’s about the person who doesn’t have any fun at the party, but still sends you a thank you note.”

The video comes in advance of the North American release of Rose’s sophomore offering, which is already garnering significant praise from critics internationally. Out next Tuesday on ATO Records, The Stand-In is currently streaming in it’s entirety on Rolling Stone, who write, “Through her indie-leaning yet twanging vocals, Rose reveals a talent for conveying her emotions through opaque narratives instead of straightforward confessionals…a touching yet audacious effort throughout.”

Rose dropped the first single, “I Was Cruel,” earlier this year, with NYLON calling the track an “instant Americana classic” and SPIN lauding “the panoramic harmonies and soaring melodies that the song’s buff Americana arrangement deserves.” Check out Rose’s recent interview with Noisey, who note, “Rose’s strength lays in depicting a rich emotional interior that’s primarily influenced by country music but containing threads of numerous other genres, approaching romance in a distantly melancholic way.”
Caitlin Rose has also just added a full run of West Coast tour dates this spring in addition to her East Coast dates, as well as a solid lineup of shows at this year’s SXSW conference in March. Check out all of Caitlin’s upcoming dates below.

Exploring your emotions can make for a good song, but it’s shining light on those which plague us all that builds the backbone of the truly great ones. Coupled with tireless melodies that seep into the small spaces between your bones; it’s the kind of music that brings on little movements when life has gotten too stiff. This is what Caitlin Rose does best. Her lyrics – visceral, illustrative, witty and wry – are pieces of stories that examine matters of the heart through a unique lens that makes us all see a bit more clearly: from the loneliness of relationships, to palpable dissolving human connectivity, to the loss of love with none of the melodrama. At her core, Nashville’s Rose is a storyteller and a song-crafter who is more interested in what’s being produced than how it helps her along the way.

“The plaintive melodies and slide-guitar riffs on Nashville-bred Caitlin Rose’s sophomore album, The Stand-In, channel greats like Patsy and Loretta, but it’s Rose’s trenchant lyrics that turn stories of heartbreak, wry observations, and even literature into country classics.” ELLE
“Her voice begins with a quiet quaver, curves ever-so-softly into the sweetest notes, then goes wide for the panoramic harmonies and soaring melodies that the song’s buff Americana arrangement deserves.” SPIN
“Rose has an expressive voice, possessing both purity and trueness of pitch, and an appealingly human, direct tone.” BBC

“The uncrowned queen of new Nashville…In its dramatic sweep and vocal reach, The Stand-In feels like one of those timeless records that Owen Bradley used to make over at Decca. As such, it’s one of the first truly great Americana albums of 2013.” Uncut
“Unique voice and a talent for writing strong pop melodies sets her miles ahead of the alt-country-rock pack.” WXPN
