Founding member and original drummer of Cheap Trick, Bun E. Carlos is releasing his first solo album. ‘Greetings From Bunezuela!’ is an remarkable collection of covers done Bun E. style. Not only do the selections run from the rare to the obscure, the interesting arrangements, with Carlos’ signature backbeat, make for an exciting listen and gives listeners a glimpse into Carlos’ world (AKA Bunezuela)
His approach with this album is not by accident. Carlos is a music fan. In addition to being the driving force behind all of Cheap Trick’s classic albums and hits, he’s known as their chief set arranger and archivist. It’s an interest he’s applied to his own music listening preferences, delving into an artist’s catalog, finding and sharing deep cuts as the treasures they are. It’s very similar to the labor of love he offered through the band’s fan club as “Bun E.’s Bootlegs,” where he would periodically curate and share lesser known original recordings and rarities from bands, including Cheap Trick. However, with ‘Greetings From Bunezuela!’ he’s driving the bus.
Included are fantastic renditions of tracks from The Who, Paul Revere & The Raiders, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Iris DeMent, the Bee Gees, Them and more. He’s also called on a few friends to help, including original Cheap Trick singer Xeno (Randy Hogan). In addition, the album features Robert Pollard (Guided By Voices), Hanson, Alejandro Escovedo, Dave Pirner (Soul Asylum), John Stirratt (Wilco), Nicholas Tremulis, Alex Dezen (Damnwells), Rick Rizzo (Eleventh Dream Day), and members of Carlos’ current bands Candy Golde and the Monday Night Band.
After spinning ‘Greetings From Bunezuela!’ it’s apparent that Bunezuela is a magical place filled with entertainment, amusement and learning. It’s a treat that Carlos has invited us to visit. Buy a ticket today and enjoy your stay.
